International Student Program Offered in Summer Session

July 08, 2008

This July Olivet University is offering a program for international students covering a range of multicultural issues – from classroom values to culture shock. The purpose of the program is to assist with the transition from the social/educational systems in their own cultures to the systems in American culture.

The program, which is open to international students, offers an array of lectures on topics that include multicultural values, American history, Christian spiritual discipline, and academic skills needed for success in an American educational setting. Instructors consist of Olivet University staff members who have volunteered their service for the program.

Around 50 international students attended the first meeting "Understanding Multicultural Values." Following an hour-long lecture, participants shared their viewpoints and experiences of United States culture during a group discussion. They also discussed various coping strategies for adapting to a new culture.

International student program sessions take place every Saturday for eight weeks over the summer break, and are held in Olivet University Chapel.
