Olivet's R&D department and Olivet College of Art & Design (OCAD) recently collaborated to host a workshop on Web 2.0 for student web designers and developers.
Rather than a new version of the web, the term "Web 2.0" describes a new understanding of the internet that is driving the development of popular sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Wikipedia, which allow content to be created and published by its users, making the web an interactive experience.
Workshop organizers explained to participants that some of Web 2.0’s most affected groups are the designers and developers building these websites. In response, Olivet’s professional staff and faculty designers organized the workshop to figure out what Web 2.0 means for the field of design.
Presentations explored new technologies that are being used for Web 2.0 projects and the impact they are having on design. Students were also given a chance during the workshop to see and discuss a number of University projects in development that apply Web. 2.0 concepts, including a social networking site.
