In the days leading up to Christmas, students from the Jubilee College of Music (JCM) will be learning about the music of the Christmas season and even preparing for a Christmas concert. JCM professors are putting elements of Christmas music into their teaching, while also practicing selections for this year's Christmas concert on December 16.
One professor, Dr. Donald Fugate, took his students to Foxworthy Baptist Church and attended a session where its professional band played a variety of Christmas music selections. It was an enriching experience for the students to participate in the band's practice, recording of a program, and learn about the music of Christmas.
In JCM's ensemble course, taught by Dr. Merrill Smoak, students are preparing a Christmas concert which will be performed live to the University community. Students are rehearsing several times a week together, giving them a valuable practical experience in performing Christmas music. Students taking the course have expressed their anticipation for a graceful performance during the actual concert.
