Dr. Joan Carter Receives Top Honors at Media Festival

December 04, 2007

Professor and Dean of Olivet College of Design (OCAD) Dr. Joan Brix Carter was awarded top prize for use of media in worship this week at the New Way Media Festival in Berkeley, California.

The New Way Media Festival is an annual celebration of faith and new media open to media art professionals, students, and enthusiasts.  The festival is hosted in conjunction with the San Francisco-based Center for the Arts, Religion, and Education (CARE).

"In this 'pixels or perish' world pixels and praise are united by Dr. Joan Carter and colleagues at CARE," said Olivet University President Dr. David James Randolph, a featured speaker at the event.

"We are blessed to have Dr. Joan Carter at Olivet," said Ginturn Tran, OCAD program director. "The passion, leadership, and scholarship she brings to her craft and students is an inspiration at and beyond Olivet."

A demonstration of Carter's displayed work followed a special awards ceremony honoring Carter.
