Doug Adams Estate Provides Generous Bequest to Library

October 02, 2007

Olivet University has received a generous donation through a bequest from the estate of the late Dr. Doug Adams. The gift includes books, films, slides, and other media resources supporting the University’s Art & Design library.

Dr. Adams played a leading role in the international field of religion and the arts, frequently lecturing on the arts at universities and churches across the nation.  He also was the president of CARE, Center for the Arts, Religion, and Education creating courses, conferences, publications, videos and exhibitions exploring the relationship between art and religion.

The bequest will be used to enhance programs at Olivet University’s College of Art & Design (OCAD), to further advance the University's work in the areas of Christian-based art and design education, for which Olivet University is internationally recognized.

"Dr. Adams is known for his understanding of the important role that art plays at a Christian university and the inherent relationship of art and design and Bible-based education," commented OCAD Program Director Ginturn Tran.

In particular, the gift is set for increasing support for faculty and students and scholarly research in accordance with Olivet University's mission, which emphasizes Christian scholarship and leadership in the network generation.
