A report from the administration announced that the Olivet class of 2011, chosen from a record-high number of applicants, reflects the University's continuing success with efforts to attract a diverse student community.
“The class of 2011 is the most diverse in Olivet’s history, with record-high representation by international students," announced an Academics & Institutional Research unit report from the Sept. 19 administrative council meeting. Fall 2007 is the second consecutive semester that Olivet has welcomed record numbers of international students into the incoming class.
Applications have increased steadily in recent years, indicating a broadening the pool of prospective students attracted to Olivet. The increase is a reflection of expanded recruitment efforts, as well as improvements to the University’s financial assistance options.
According to the report, “[The University] has been remarkably successful in making Olivet affordable for international students regardless of family financial circumstances.” The report also stated “Building a strong multicultural community is high among Olivet’s priorities. The University will continue concentrating on the recruitment, in addition to the selection and yields of international students in the applicant pool for future classes.”
The class of 2011 is Olivet’s largest first-year class, as the University steadily grows the size of the student body towards its enrollment and graduation goals.
