Staff members with responsibility for directing efforts to support and enhance the residential experience of international students at Olivet University will join the school community this summer.
Working together with other residential University staff members, the new "international student advisors" will support each of the five colleges in providing guidance and support concerning school-related and personal issues. The advisors also will serve as principal liaisons to other University offices.
"We view these positions as important for a successful residential college system at Olivet," said Kelly Lim, Director of Student Life. "The advisors will complement the work of the deans and directors of each college, and will strengthen our network of administrative support services."
Traditionally, each college has been staffed by a dean and a director of studies, with responsibility for assisting students with academic matters; a college administrator, who provides financial and some program-related coordination; and a student staff of advisers.
The University is in the process of expanding its international undergraduate and graduate student body considerably in the fall semester. In addition, it is improving the residential system to better serve students, especially with more opportunities for one-on-one engagement with college leaders.
"Another responsibility of the international student advisor will be to promote the highest standards of residential university community life by serving as an example of mature Christian conduct and helping students appreciate the value of living in a diverse community," said Lim.
Lim said the University will continue to review applicants for the positions throughout the summer.
