OCJ Recruits Alumni as Mentors for New Semester

July 06, 2007

Olivet College of Journalism (OCJ) recently urged alumni to share their experiences and learning with current students for the upcoming Fall 2007 Semester.

Having trained a number of successful professional journalists, OCJ continues to encourage alumni to come back each year to enrich and empower its student body as mentors.

In addition to offering earlier generations at OCJ ways to give back to the school community, the program allows journalism students a one-on-one mentoring relationship, as well as a wider perspective into the professional media world.

"I am looking forward to teaching these 'kids' the ropes," said OCJ alumnae Michelle Vu, who landed a position as a reporter at a Christian news ministry after graduation.

"I remember entering the journalism program a bit uncertain about myself. Having alumni mentors, however, helped me make the transition into college, and eventually into professional journalism," Vu explained.

"Because they were former students, they understood me and my needs. They taught me the qualities of high integrity, honesty and professionalism by example. They taught me how to keep God at the center of my life."

If you are an alumnus of Olivet College of Journalism, and you are interested in serving as a mentor, please call this number: (415) 371- 0002. Ask for OCJ admin.
