The mission of Olivet University is to train biblical scholars and leaders with the ministry skills needed to change the world today, in the network-generation. Those ministry skills include language competency in English. That's why today's announcement that the University will open a new unit dedicated solely to English language training comes as no surprise to the Olivet community, which received official notice last week of approval by California's Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE) to offer language instruction.
"We envision the English language instruction unit as a natural outgrowth of the institution's values and mission, which take a long-term view of the role of higher biblical education in preparing students for the world of missions," stated Tracy McNeal, Olivet University's Director of Academic Affairs and Institutional Research.
The unit is slated to offer an English as a Second Language Program, providing academic training for undergraduate and graduate students in support of the university's efforts to attract qualified international students. It will also include English language-learning opportunities specially geared towards students interested in overseas missions.
Olivet University currently offers degree-granting programs in theology, music, graphic design, and information technology.
