A transfer student is defined as any student who has previously matriculated as a degree candidate at another institution and has earned or is earning college-level academic credit at the undergraduate/graduate level.
Students applying for transfer to Olivet University must follow the admission procedures. Students are responsible for making sure their official college transcripts from all schools attended are emailed directly from the issuing educational institution to the email address of the Admissions Office at admissions@olivetuniversity.ed or mailed directly from the issuing educational institution to the following address:

Coursework transferred or accepted for credit toward any OU degree must be relevant to the degree program, with course content and level of instruction resulting in student competencies at least equivalent to those of students enrolled in this university’s degree programs. In assessing and documenting equivalent learning and qualified faculty, OU personnel consult official institutional catalogs and employ recognized guides that aid in the evaluation for credit.
Such guides include those published by the American Council on Education, the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), and the National Association of Foreign Student Affairs, or such services as are provided by AACRAO or the World Education Services (WES).
OU accepts transfer credit from other accredited educational institutions and challenge examinations and standardized tests such as the College Level Placement Tests (CLEP) for specific academic disciplines:
Transfer credit is awarded based on specific requirements:
In order to assist students with curricular planning, the transfer evaluation process must be completed as soon as possible. Transfer courses are evaluated in the Office of Admissions for acceptance of core curriculum requirements and general elective credit at the time of admission. Transfer credits applied toward major requirements are determined in consultation with the appropriate academic divisions. After enrollment at the university, courses taken at another institution are evaluated for transfer by the Registrar's Office.
Olivet University reserves the right to notify applicants that they must have their non U.S. academic transcripts evaluated by an academic transcript evaluation agency using a course-by-course report.
Olivet prefers that transcripts be evaluated by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO)or one of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member agencies. In such cases, credit and placement decisions are based on the recommendations of AACRAO or NACES . Please note that applicants are financially responsible for the cost of these evaluation reports.
Students are granted one full course credit (4 quarter units) for an eligible Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) Higher Level Exam on which an appropriate score has been earned (for AP, a score of 3 or above; for IB, a score of 5 or above), within transfer limits for each degree level. (Other equivalent exams, such as the Swiss matura or the British A-levels, are also available for one course credit, when completed with an equivalent score). Credit is not granted for exams that duplicate each other, such as AP and IB English Literature.
AP and IB credit are treated like transfer credit. An AP score of 3 will be recorded as C, 4 as B, and 5 as A on Olivet University grade reports and transcripts. Transfer students wishing to receive course credit for AP/IB exams must request AP/IB transcripts be sent to Olivet University, or submit official college transcripts that clearly indicate the AP/IB subject for which the student was awarded credit by the transferring institution. Prospective applicants can contact the Office of Admissions for the Credit Transfer Eligibility Guide for AP Exams.
College Level Examination Program(CLEP) examinations cover material that is taught in introductory-level courses at many colleges and universities. OU follows the ACE credit recommendation when awarding credits for eligible CLEP exams and will record " P" or "NP" on a student’s transcript for the CLEP exam score that meets the minimum requirement without affecting the student's GPA. If duplicate credit exists among AP, CLEP, or IB, the exam yielding the most credit will be awarded.
Transfer students wishing to receive course credit for CLEP exams must request CLEP exam scores and transcripts be sent to Olivet University, or submit official college transcripts that clearly indicate the CLEP exam for which the student was awarded credit by the transferring institution. Prospective Applicants can contact the Office of Admissions for the Credit Transfer Eligibility Guide for CLEP Exams.
Anyone found to have been admitted to Olivet University on the basis of false information will be immediately dismissed and will forfeit all financial payments made and academic credits accumulated during all periods of enrollment following that admission.
