Olivet University Joins 2024 Breast Cancer Walk, Supporting Awareness and Community Spirit

October 29, 2024

This past weekend, Olivet University (OU) students joined the annual Michelle’s Place Cancer Walk, participating alongside Anza community members to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer patients during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. OU is a proud sponsor and a second-time participant in this Cancer Walk, underscoring the institution's commitment to supporting local initiatives.

The event began at the Anza Community Hall, where participants first registered while browsing through craft tables. Local radio station KOYT provided music and announcements before the crowd embarked on a route that concluded at the historic Hamilton Museum. Along the way, participants not only enjoyed a refreshing outdoor walk but also learned about the history of Anza, with insights into the lives of early ranchers and pioneers who shaped the town. The walk was accompanied by a craft fair and chili cook-off organized by Pebbles Lewis, Director of the Anza Community Hall, and a team of volunteers.

Student volunteers contributed their skills by capturing photos and videos of the event, creating lasting memories for participants, and showcasing the spirit of unity and support that the walk fostered.

For many Olivet University international students, the event provided an opportunity to engage with the local community, meet new friends, and experience an authentic slice of Anza’s history and culture. Each participant received a commemorative T-shirt, serving as a lasting reminder of their involvement in this meaningful cause.

The annual Anza Breast Cancer Walk remains a powerful reminder of the importance of community support in cancer awareness, as well as the value of local partnerships in making a positive impact on both a regional and personal level.
